Hi Timo,
Thanks for the quick reply!
Sadly, I can’t update to a newer macOS version. My MacBook is almost 11 years old at this point, so it’s completely understandable that it can’t be supported any more. I’m honestly impressed that applications in general still run this well on it. Running SubTotal on my phone would technically work, but the workflow SubTotal fits into would be severely affected, so it’s not really a good option for me personally. So I will keep running it on my old laptop for now, which brings me to a few questions.
1. Is it possible to disable further SubTotal updates?
Since the app works pretty well right now (apart from this bug), I’d prefer to avoid future updates that might break things more over time.
2. Do you have any experience running SubTotal through Wine on Linux?
I’ve been thinking about my next work laptop either a used MacBook or a Linux laptop, or maybe even installing Linux on my current machine since it still works great apart from the lack of macOS updates. I’m very familiar with Linux, and SubTotal is the only app I use that doesn’t have a Linux version. Just to be clear, I’m not asking you to make a Linux version; I’m simply curious if you know whether SubTotal works under Wine or not.
3. What happens when you officially drop support for macOS 12?
Will the app still run as-is, or will it stop launching entirely?
And finally, I just want to say: thank you for making SubTotal. It’s one of those rare small software gems that feels thoughtfully crafted, reliable, and genuinely pleasant to use. It has made my workflow so much smoother, and I really appreciate the care and attention you put into it.
