Hello,
first of all, thank you for the excellent app. I really enjoy using SubTotal for creating invoices and quotes for my business. The app is clean, fast and very intuitive.
However, I would like to suggest an improvement regarding document numbering.
Currently, quotes/estimates and invoices appear to use the same sequential numbering system. This means that every time a quote is created, the invoice number counter also increases.
Example:
- Create Quote → Number 1001
- Create another Quote → Number 1002
- Create Invoice → Number 1003
If one or both quotes are never accepted, the invoice numbering sequence contains gaps caused only by unused quotes.
For many businesses in Germany and other European countries, invoices are expected to follow a clear and traceable numbering system. While explainable gaps are legally possible, having quotes and invoices share the same numbering sequence feels confusing and somewhat impractical from an accounting and organizational perspective.
Suggested improvement:
Please allow separate numbering sequences for:
- Quotes / Estimates
- Invoices
For example:
- Quote: QUO-2026-001
- Invoice: INV-2026-001
This would improve clarity, bookkeeping and overall workflow, especially for professional users and small businesses in Europe.
